Somatic emotional release
In her treatments, where appropriate, Sona also uses somatic emotional release technique, which she developed intuitively and experientially during her own healing journey. Trying to heal her anxiety after going through a challenging time in her life, Sona was inspired by teachings of Prof. David Hawkins, Dr Peter Levine ( a pioneer of somatic therapy) and others, as well as ancient healing systems, such as chakra systems in Yoga and Chinese meridians. Later on, polyvagal theory further confirmed Sona's personal experience and findings.
From the Greek word ‘soma’ which means ‘body’, somatic therapy recognises connection between our mind and body. Emotions (energies in motion) and traumas, which we were unable to process in our childhood and in later years, have been stored in our body causing blockages and imbalances. These suppressed emotions, if not acknowledged and released, can later in life manifest as physical illnesses and pains in the body. In addition, due to programmed beliefs from unresolved traumas and our conditioning, we tend to get triggered by similar circumstances in life. This is the body's way to help us revisit suppressed emotions to release them.
Somatic emotional release helps us access these stored energies via our subconscious mind and bring them up to the surface as physical sensations, such as tingling, warmth, feeling of heaviness, pressure. By observing, focusing and welcoming these sensations, the energy is finally able to move through us (via our energy centres – chakras) and eventually is transmuted. During focusing, clients may receive insights, even symbolic images and see colours changing, or just feel energy flowing through the body.
This method helps to ‘peel the layers’ of our suppressed emotions and helps us to process challenging situations in our lives much more effectively. We are able react to similar situations in a more conscious way, without a strong emotional charge.
Sona has been using this method with her clients, alongside acupuncture, since 2023. This is a long-term journey of self-discovery for her clients, as well as herself, bringing incredible experiences and insights allowing to process life challenges in a more meaningful way.
"I have found my long-standing neck impingement has eased after treatment with Sona, after trying many different therapists over the years.
It has also revealed other parts of my body that need attention and release. I have been surprised about how images and emotions have surfaced during Sona's treatment. It has been really helpful to make connections between my chronic neck tension and events and relationship dynamics from early childhood onwards. Years of struggling with a neck issue is finally releasing in revelatory ways."
